Companion - 9.2./10

It's best not to know anything about it and go in completely blind because it's such a relief and pleasure to watch a movie and get caught off guard by every twist, which is unpredictable. I haven't seen a movie directed or written by Drew Hancock; I will look forward to whatever he does next because of it. He made a sharp, clever, darkly funny and thrilling movie that's also about women's autonomy and asks the question, can AI be synthetic yet feared?

Sophie Thatcher is sensational as Iris. The walking line of ranges she does is captivating. Jack Quaid is taking on a role that you haven't seen him in before, and that's all I'm going to say because it's different.

The supporting cast is small but leaves a lasting impact, featuring key players such as Harvey Guillén, Lukas Gage, Megan Suri, and Rupert Friend. Eli Born's cinematography is crisp, and the original score by Hrishikesh Hirway is both bubbly and romantic, yet ominous and mysterious. The editing by Brett W. Bachman and Josh Ethier is never lacking and is coherent, moving in a perfect rhythm.

The story starts strong and then gets thinner as it goes. And just like another Jack Quaid movie, 'Novacaine', it should've ended at a certain point, but had more endings that just stretched the runtime and flowed narratively. With all of that being said, I highly recommend this with a date. Or your AI partner.
