Jadd J.A.D.D. Jadd
This has been a difficult movie to review with all the recent controversy that has come out recently. Zoe Saldana proves how much of a dynamic and sheer dynamite of a performer she is. And explosive actress she is. Her two songs Todo y Nada and El Mal, which was nominated for best song, are an absolute blast, and the only time the choreography isn't claustrophobic. Karla Sofia Gascon is a very toxic person and a terrible person in real life. She did give an excellent performance. Selena Gomez has proven to be a decent actress in Only Murders in the Building, but in this movie, it's quite over the top and something out of telenova.
I'm so annoyed with director Jacques Audiard disregard and flippant comments. It's Hollywood and the Academy saying they're progressive when it's pandering to a community and a country that deserves better. How is it that Jacques Audiard got nominated for best director, and Jon M. Chu didn't? While Karla Sofia Gascon gave a good performance. The entire controversy about her is unfortunate and disappointing. It's groundbreaking to have a Trans woman be nominated for best actress and win all the awards. It's a massive milestone, but because of what she said, it is now a giant step back, and it's disappointing, especially now. The Trans community deserves better, and so does Mexico. This movie has potential and ambition, but the execution is sloppy and ungenuine.
