Eternals – 6.4./10

Updated: Mar 27, 2022

Jadd J.A.D.D. Jadd I would compare this movie to Star Trek 5. It askes the big questions but falls flat with it’s character development. Expect this is a better made movie then Star Trek 5. This is no way near the worst MCU but it’s differently one of the weakest ones. This is absolutely the most beautiful looking MCU movie with it’s wide and crisp cinematography, top tier visual effects and excellent action sequences. Chloé Zhao brings her unique eye and style to the MCU and I can see where she was taking it. This is the most diverse Marvel yet. Everyone is represented on screen and I’m so happy to see Marvel growing in diversity starting with Black Panther, Shang Chi and now this movie. And having the first LGBTIA+ family made my heart soar. Ramin Djawadi’s score flows with the movie’s emotions in the dramatic moments and action sequences. All the actors are fantastic the ones that stood out to me was Richard Madden, Don Lee, Lia McHugh, Kumail Nanjiani, Brian Tyree Henry, Lauren Ridloff, Harish Patel and Angelina Jolie. I love how ambitiousness this movie is. It explores the big questions of creation, purpose and existence I thought it was really bold to tell in a Marvel movie. This is a very dense movie and a lot of it and should’ve been a two parter or a series. It’ so dense and crowded with a lot of exposition. Most of the charters they introduce come in and leave in third act and comes back in the last ten minutes of the movie. Salma Hayek is astounding actress but she was wasted here. It felt like most of scenes were cut out and she’s the leader and we knew nothing about her. Gemma Chan is fantastic actress but he character feels underdeveloped and her romance with Ikaris was wooden and they didn’t have any chemistry. Half of the characters get overlooked or underdeveloped. For example the characters say something that’s a big deal but has no pay off and came out of no where quite randomly.
