Jadd J.A.D.D. Jadd This was a fun time at the movie theatre as far as fifth instalments go in a franchise. The first five minutes were solid, it was full of suspense and dread like the original movie. This is the goriest of the five of them; the other movies have been bloody and brutal, but this movie ramps up the violence. Directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett made a love letter not only to the franchise but to Wes Craven himself. As far as the new cast goes, the best actors are Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega and Jack Quaid. Neve Campbell, David Arquette and Courteney Cox are all taking charge when their on-screen with full-fleshed dimensions. I laughed a few times, and some of the new rules that they have are interesting because they change appropriately for the times we live in now and how the industry has changed. Now, when the original three come into the movie, it feels like a movie and actual characters have come in. The new cast is good when it comes to their performances, and I wanted to like them. But they're not as memorable as the original, and they feel more like caricatures. The one thing I hate more is slasher movies are the Jump scares, and there were way too many in this movie; some didn’t even need to be there. As silly as the previous four movies got, they felt cinematic with their grit, atmosphere, and uneasiness. And with this felt like a polished CW TV movie. When the killer is revealed and the motivation is revealed, it all fell flat. What made the original movie so good is that it was meta, but it was a self-contained story. Here, there is a reference every five seconds, but there comes a point where it stops being a movie and starts being a fanfiction movie.
