The Power of the Dog – 9.0./10

Jadd J.A.D.D. Jadd This is one of my favourite movies of this year. Jane Campion direction is spot on with a eye for scope and storytelling. The cinematography from Ari Wegner is superb she captures the sprit and atmosphere of the Western genre. The score by Jonny Greenwood is uneasy and suspenseful. Benedict Cumberbatch gives his best performance since The Imitation Game. He’s electrifying and terrifying and he commands the room with us presence but beneath that is loneliness. Kirsten Dunst is excellent, you sympathise with her as battles her demons and tries to sane that Phil Burbank drives to. Kodi Smit-McPhee is fantastic his arc is all about acceptance and someone to look up to and he finds that in Phil Burbank. Jesse Plemons is good, his character is a good man but he must deal with the pressures from his family. Everything from a technically is well done and themes and story are full of mystery as you don’t what lies within these characters. I had to pick one with the problem with the movie is that the first act is slow but it does keep up as the movie goes on. Other then that it’s great movie that needs to be watched and talked about.
