This was hugely anticipated and some of it lived up to the hype. Oscar Isaac is brilliant, he plays all of these roles like a craftsman. He truly dives into these roles and makes them very distinctive from the volume of his voice to his body language. There's so much empathy for his character that it will break your heart. I admire and applaud this series for how the showrunners handled mental health with care and sensitivity. Ethan Hawke is fantastic as Arthur Harrow. His both creepy but at the same time chews the scenery subtly. He's also sinister the way he manipulates people is a lot like a religious cult leader. May Calamawy gives absolute dynamite of a performance. She rivals Marc, with her skills and intelligence but also has depth. F. Murray Abraham is good as the voice of Khonshu. With his smooth and deep voice, he brought life to an ancient god. The cinematography is very different from the other MCU series, it has more of a Universal monster movie mixed with a comic book aesthetic. The score by Hesham Nazih brought the Middle East and Egyptian culture to the mainstream with richness and texture. The action sequences were well done with the energised camera and creative stunts and choreography.
There are only six episodes in this limited series and the pacing suffers from it. Especially in the final episode, it just felt like it was rushing to get to the end credit scene and to set up for the next movie or show. If this was eight or nine episodes, there would be more time to flesh out everyone's motivations and arcs. For a series called 'Moon Knight,' he's barely in this series. He's there for fifteen minutes in total for the whole series. For all the build-up, the creators of the series were promising about the series being more horror oriented. While the aesthetic feels like that, it never goes to the edge and it's pretty average horror. Like I said before Ethan Hawke is great as Arthur Harrow. He had the makings of a great villain, unfortunately, it doesn't go anywhere along with his motivation. When the action works, it works but when it tries to get brutal the screen cuts to black and we see the aftermath and that was disappointing. because again we were promised a different take for the MCU but it didn't deliver on that. I'm so sick of these shows from Star Wars to the MCU only being six episodes. Because with each episode runtime gets shorter and shorter a lot of time gets wasted.
