My list for the best movies is coming up, but next year is looking bright and promising. As always, this is my own ranking, and I'm hoping and praying to the movie gods that these movies are hits.
1. Avengers: Doomsday - As a massive MCU and Marvel fan, I'm curious about how Disney and Marvel are going to pull this off, as Phase 4&5 have had various results and criticism both about the genre and behind-the-scenes drama. I'm hoping it's a success not only critically and financially, but it reminds us why we love this world and characters and why it's one of the most important genres in cinema.
2. The Odyssey - Christopher Nolan is back after sweeping everyone away with Oppenheimer, winning awards, including best picture, best director, and audiences and critics being in awe. Christopher Nolan adapted Homer's poem, and an insane cast he has ever done more so than Oppenheimer. I will be there in IMAX because if you are going to see a Christopher Nolan or James Cameron movie, it's going to be in IMAX or any other large format screens.
3. Spider-Man: Brand New Day - A lot is riding on this with all the recent casting and characters appearing in it. I'm hoping this will end Peter Parker's arc as the main character and will pass the torch to Miles Morales, and will be like the games where Peter is a mentor in a supporting role and let Miles Morales shine. I'm hoping that's the case, but I'm curious and intrigued what's installed for my favourite superhero.
4. Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grougu - I love the first two seasons of the series. The last two episodes of season 3 were the best of that season; other than that. It was a very disappointing season that threw away potential. I'm hoping this movie brings back what we love about the series.
5. Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man - The series is one of the best TV has to offer, and delivered. Now the movie will conclude the bloody saga of Tommy Shelby. I'm not going to miss it because 'You don't fuck with the Peaky Blinders."
6. Disclosure Day - Steven Spielberg's last great movie was Catch Me If You Can in 2002. Even though people have praised another movie of his that came out in 2002, which, I think in my opinion, is a convoluted and boring movie. Which is a repetitive and recycled of Steven Spielberg and John Williams previous works.
Recently, his best in the past two decades were The Adventures of Tintin and West Side Story. This movie returns to the Spielberg magic like in the 70s, 80s, and 90s, The Adventures of Tintin and West Side Story. Now I'm hoping this movie brings back the Spielberg and Williams magic which made them so important and iconic in the 70s, 80s, 90s, 2011 and 2021.
7. Dune: Messiah - The epic conclusion to the Dune trilogy, and Denis Villeneuve, along with his cast and crew. I know they deliver an ending that goes down in history as one of the best movie trilogies of all time.
8. Wuthering Heights - I haven't read the book by Emily Brontë. I love Emerald Fennell's previous movies like Saltburn and Promising Young Woman, so for her to make a steamy and dark period piece with the hottest stars in the industry, such as Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi, then this will be an adaptation that will be seen in film schools and high schools.
9. Send Help - Sam Raimi is back directing a low - or medium-budget movie. Starring Rachel McAdams and Dylan O'Brain in a thriller and horror movie with one of my favourite directors returning to his directorial roots in the genre that put him on the map. January is starting to look up.
10. Apex - starring the mighty Charlize Theron and insanely talented Taron Edgerton in a survival movie. Hunting each other and in nature. Say no more, I'm sold on that premise alone.
Memorable Mentions: Greta Gerwig's Narnia, Toy Story 5, The Drama, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, Michael, The Bride, Werwulf and The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping.
