This will make the fans of the game very happy. As for me, I liked it. I even thought it was better than the first. Sonic shows a bit more growth with his character while still being likable. The new characters stole the movie for me. Knuckles is a lot like Drax from the MCU. He's really serious but funny, with a touching back story, longing for friendship and a family and overall a total badass. Tails is adorable, I love his big brother and little brother with Sonic. Ben Schwartz, Colleen O'Shaughnessey and Idris Elba are outstanding for voicing these characters. They put this movie up to another level. Each of them brings so much personality and charm to them that's very distinct and I can't imagine any other actor voicing them. Jim Carrey, of course, kills it. He's so magnetic and full of energy that it's hard not to stop watching him. The visual effects are top-notch, which makes for imaginative set pieces and fun action sequences. There is so much more tenderness and sweetness to this movie that was sorely lacking in the first movie.
However, it shouldn't be two hours and two minutes. First of all, I hate it in family movies when there is a dance scene thrown in randomly. It didn't need to be there and Just dragged things out. I couldn't stand the human characters it felt like a lame sitcom. Towards the end for a good fifteen minutes, Sonic wasn't isn't in. Then it turns into a really bad comedy with an even waste surprise twist. If the filmmakers put the human characters at the beginning and at the end not only will it be shorter but nothing would've been missed.
