This is a movie that needs to be seen as soon as possible. I'm probably going to get shot for this, but hearing me first watching a movie made me remember something George Lucas said ‘it’s poetry, it rhymes.’ By that, I mean in Guillermo del Toro's movies that the monsters and the ghosts are metaphors for the real monsters which are humans. And this movie delivers that on speed. It’s a psychological Neo-noir character arc that will engross you and never let you go. Bradley Cooper is nothing short of incredible, he continues to push the envelope on his range and versatility as an actor. Cate Blanchett is brilliant with her icy cold eyes, mysterious nature and motivations. She is one of the best actresses of our generation. The assembled cast like Rooney Mara, Toni Collette, Willem Dafoe, David Strathairn, Ron Perlman and Richard Jenkin are all fantastic and each actor in their role have an importance to the story. The lighting is exquisite, it perfectly shows the true characters' true selves. The aesthetic is captivating and gorgeous. Guillermo del Toro has a distinct style and imagination is engaging, enthralling and at least for me sucks me in emotionally and mentally. The cinematography from Dan Laustsen is crisp and surreal. Nathan Johnson's score takes you through uneasiness with quiet melodies.

As for flaws, it may not appeal to everyone because it’s a slow burn and the trailers portrayed it as a horror or a thriller and it’s not any of that. It’s a drama and a mystery that gives you the answers in time and subtle details that you keep more the more times you watch it.
