Star Wars: The Book of Boba Fett - 7.5./10

Updated: Mar 27, 2022

Jadd J.A.D.D. Jadd After the second season of The Mandalorian, I couldn’t wait to see more of Boba Fett and Fennec Shand and I got some of that here. Temuera Morrison was excellent as we dove into more of his character and explore what he wants with his second chance at life. Ming-Na Wen is good and continued to show what an unstoppable force she is. The main title theme from Ludwig Göransson made another great piece of Star Wars music. The complete score from Joseph Shirley is just as so. This is a gorgeously made show with a beautiful bond of CGI and practical effects. Most of the action sequences are exciting and creative. I love the spaghetti western aesthetic as well as the gangster aesthetic because it has its own thing while not being attached to the whole Skywalker saga. I love how Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau have developed the Tuskens and has given them more character through sign language and protecting their land like Native Americans or Aboriginals being connected to their land spiritually and protecting each other. There were scenes that caught me off guard and blew me away because I never thought I would ever see anything in Star Wars ever. When I said the action sequences are good it was true but with episodes one and three, it was underwhelming and slow. There’s a biker gang that really didn’t fit in with the grittiness that the show was going for plus the menial face wear and arms were bad. There’s a character called Krrsantan, apparently in the comics his a real badass but here it was completely disappointing all of that potential is gone. The narrative story structure was sloppy and unfocused. It started off distant and hopeful with the first two episodes but episode three was bad with some highlights. Episode five and six were outstanding because it was focused on characters that had time to be developed and we grow to love them. The last episode was fun with really cool imagery and action. But that’s the biggest problem here Boba Fett as a character wasn’t well fleshed out, I understood his motivation but it didn’t feel complete. The same thing with Fennec Shand, she got no growth to her character except a bit with her meeting Boba Fett but other than that, nothing. They both have shells of great character depth but unfortunately, we didn’t get that here.
