This is an honest spiritual successor to the original and a genuine love for the Asian culture. It was so wonderful to see representation on a large mainstream scale. This show and Shand Chi honour that. Gordon Corimer, Kiawentiio, and Ian Ousley are great in their roles, and I grow to care for them. As Dallas Liu and Paul Sun-Hyung Lee are all the are the heart and soul of this show. Daniel Dae Kim and Elizabeth Yu make for terrifying villains. The visual effects are dazzling and marvellous along with some tightly well-done action sequences. It's imaginative and thrilling. The changes will make or break for some fans, but I appreciate and respect the changes because I don't want a shot by shot of the original. It does its own thing while but tieing in the original.
Ian Ousley was a little stiff as Sokka in the beginning but loosened up after a while. Sokka is just really animated character to nail down, and so is King Bumi played by Utkarsh Ambudkar and his every hot and miss with that character. They put a lot in 8 episodes, and it's crammed in along with lengthy exposition. There is a moment where they got Sokka to have a Kylo Ren shrtless moment, which is odd, to say the least. I would love to see this continue with a season 2.
